Happy Day - Thanks, Mom!

Today is my mother's birthday - Happy Birthday Mom!
So, to honor her, I would like to share with you all some quotable quotes from life in the Crowder household.  I owe all my mothering gifts to my mom - and I'm not being silly - she's been a great example!

"Because I said so!" Yes, I use this one too.
"I don't want to hear another word out of you.  Do you hear me?  Answer me!" This one brought on much laughter afterwards.
In response to my whining about why I had to do some housework- "Why do you think I had kids? So I could have some help around here."
When heading out to the store and both my sister and I wanted to go - "One of you is moral support, but the second is hassle." And then we would argue over who was who.
When walking through Wicks and Sticks (remember that one?), we had to have our hands behind our backs with our thumbs tucked into the palm of the other hand so as not to touch anything.
After going through a drive thru and heading home, she would pass us each one french fry and we would see who could make that one french fry last all the way home by taking tiny nibbles. (That way you still had some to eat with your meal once you got home.) I've tried this one with my kids and it just doesn't work as well with boys!
There are many more funny stories and great memories - like melting crayon shavings between wax paper with an iron, and getting frustrated when she would sneakily move the car while dad ran into the grocery store (daddy will never find us!), knowing she stayed up all night before Easter to finish sewing our new Easter dresses, hearing her pray while she was washing dishes, the black Barbie doll. . .
I'm so thankful for the blessed life that we had (and still have) as kids because of my mom.  Love you! Hope you have a great day!

Closing out the year 2024

New Year's Eve. . . the end of a year that makes you reflect back on the last 365 days. Most of us are looking forward to the new year and some of us are looking back and wondering where it went! What happened to 2024?! What do we even have to show for it but some bumps and bruises? It's been a wild ride, ya'll!  But reflection is a good thing, right? Taking time to skim over the year and look for highlights and lowlights and facing the disappointments and celebrating the achievements - these are important things to do. So what were some of my wins and losses? What a great year! Celebrated 1 year of working for the church Traveled internationally with hubby several times Started year 2 of our ministry school Got a dog (a BIG dog) Graduated a kid from Bible School Started a kid at a private school (step of faith) What a tough year! Experienced a flood of sorts at the church (broken pipe) Got banned from entering a country Got a dog (a BIG dog) Moved adult kid back home (pare...

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. . .

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, I wrote a blog. Posts were few and far between at best. I was working 40+ hours a week at a job. There were 3 children at home with various activities and none were driving so taxiing was my side hustle (unpaid, grueling hours). The Hubs was working 50-60 hours a week pioneering a church and starting a side business. So much has changed since the last post, that I contemplated scrapping it all and starting fresh.  Or should I?   Always a challenge to get all my words out, I hesitate to even write this one. But I will provide a catch-up for history's sake... Kid #1 is graduated and trying to be a grown-up on his own in a different city.  College courses, which are mostly online because of the big 'C', working almost full time and a girlfriend keep him pretty busy, but not too busy to call his mama every few days.  Especially when the bank account is low.  Kid #2 is finishing up his last year of high school and living hi...

Tea for two!

Once upon a time, two ladies prepared for tea.  The smallest of the two played the part of hostess and laid out her fine china. Many lovely delicacies were brought out with the tea. The two ladies were dressed in their finest jewels and had their hair adorned in the most becoming way. Their dainty pink purses hung across their dainty arms. They gathered young babies and fed them with great care.  The babes were cleaned, bathed and put to nap in the cozy beds nearby. The two ladies were having such a grand time that they decided to invite others to join them in their tea.   The gentlemen neighbors were promptly invited to tea, but alas, they had a prior engagement (helping small frogs jump across the road).  Upon returning to their tea, the ladies met an unfortunate circumstance! They were attacked by a flock of angry birds!  The prettiest little lady adamantly declared "there's no angry birds having tea!" When the two ladies were safely seated back at th...
